The Cathedral Choir of Canterbury - Saint Augustine, Founder of the Choir
The choir takes great pride in the professionalism of music performed at its services, and today's Carol Service was another example of that professional character. The Music Department consists of the Cathedral Choir of 30 choristers and 12 Lay Clerks, plus three Organists and the Master of the Choristers. The Cathedral was founded by St Augustine. Ever since the murder of Archbishop Thomas Becket in the Cathedral in 1170, Canterbury has attracted thousands of individuals making the pilgramage.
